Midtown is one of the more convenient places to stay in Houston if you do not want to drive everywhere. It sits close to Downtown, light rail and the Medical Center, and it has plenty of food within a short walk or ride. For a short work trip, a hospital visit or a few weeks between homes, it is a good base.
Who stays in Midtown
- Medical visitors. People in town for treatment, and family who come with them, often need somewhere close to the Texas Medical Center.
- Students and trainees. Short stays near campuses, including HCC Central, for a term or a program.
- Business travelers. A furnished room can be quieter and cheaper than a hotel for a longer stay.
- People between homes. A furnished place for a few weeks while a move or a repair gets sorted out.
Private room or whole place?
A private bedroom or room is the budget choice. You get your own space and a bed, and you share the house. A whole place costs more, but you get your own kitchen and bathroom and more privacy, which matters on a longer stay. If you are working from the room, ask about the desk, the Wi-Fi and the noise level before you book.
What to check before you book
- Distance to where you need to be. Check the real travel time to your hospital, office or campus at the hours you will travel, not just the map distance.
- Parking or transit. Midtown is easier without a car than most of Houston, but if you are driving, confirm where you can park.
- Bed, kitchen and laundry. For stays of a week or more, laundry and some way to cook make a real difference.
- Check-in and contact. Self check-in is convenient, but you also want a person who answers when something does not work.
- Reviews that mention the host. Look for comments on cleanliness and how fast problems were fixed.
