The Ring doorbell is a great smart home device and one we recommend to anyone who wants to step up their security. The product is not the problem. The install is where people lose a Saturday.
1. It has to go in a tight spot
A common problem is that the doorbell needs to sit in a narrow gap or against brick, and the baseplate does not fit. Doing it like a professional means choosing the right mounting position and, if needed, using a wedge or angle kit instead of cutting into the wall.
2. The Wi-Fi does not reach the door
After you download the app and pair the doorbell, you can go through every step and find at the end that the connection failed. Or the signal at the front door is too weak to stream video. Check the signal before you mount anything, and plan for a router move or an extender.
3. Hardwiring means live electricity
If you replace an existing doorbell, you have to turn off the power to it first. Plenty of people turn off the wrong circuit, forget, or never knew they had to, and find out that there is live power on the doorbell wires. Always turn the circuit off at the breaker and confirm it is dead before you touch the wires.
4. Crooked walls
Once the bracket is in, the doorbell has to snap onto it. If the wall or frame is not straight, it can take a lot of trial and error to get the doorbell to seat and stay put.
Skip the headache
If you want a Ring installed without the trial and error, AdmirD can do it. We mount and wire the doorbell, set up Wi-Fi and the app, tune the motion zones and show you how to use it. A typical install takes about an hour. Read what our Ring installation covers, or follow the step by step guide if you want to try it yourself.
